Taliban court orders amputation for thieves

Zimbabwe Star Wednesday 5th May, 2010

Taliban militants have cut off the hands of three men in Pakistan.

Pakistani police from the tribal region of Orakzai, near the Afghanistan border, have confirmed the incident, which was ordered by a Taliban sharia court.

The court ordered the right hands of three local tribesmen should be cut off as punishment for an alleged theft.

After the amputations, the men were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The resultant blood loss following the amputations has put the men in danger of losing their lives.

Orakzai, in northwest Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal area, has recently been the centre for action in an anti-Taliban sweep by the Pakistan military, which is trying to eradicate Islamist extremism.

On that day, he assumed the mantle of realising through military might the criminal goals of ethnically cleansing much of Bosnia. On that day he commenced his direct involvement in serious international crimes.
