ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - The capital police arrested nine African nationals after a video of them roughing up police officers went viral on social media.
According to police sources, the incident occurred at 3:15 p.m. on September 12 at G-10/1, when a group of African country nationals quarreled with the police officers on the road.
Previously, there was a road rage incident between a group of locals and an African country's national following an accident. Meanwhile, a police patrolling team arrived and called the Ramna police, including the Station House officer (SHO).
The foreigners began arguing with the police officers and demanding identification, suspecting them of being impersonators attempting to support their rivals, and began thrashing the officers.
According to sources, the police called for additional assistance, which arrived quickly. Meanwhile, the foreigners contacted their diplomats, who came to handle the situation.
Ramna police arrested the Africans after the case was registered.
When contacted, SHO Ramna Alamgir Khan confirmed the arrest of nine foreigners. He claimed that there was a brawl between two groups over a road accident and that one of the foreigners, who was under the influence of alcohol, created a scene.
