The Zimbabwean government has offered its employees a 76% pay increase - which is, nonetheless, short of what they are demanding, according to a statement issued by the state workers' representative body on Friday.
The APEX Council, comprising all civil servant representative bodies, said the 76% increase would not take salaries of the lowest paid workers to the minimum demanded.
"Following the rejection of a 10% government offer by the APEX Council, the NJNC meeting convened today, 23 August 2019, saw government move their offer to 76% of the total package effective from the 1 August 2019," APEX said.
"The offer does not meet the stated position of the workers, which is pegged at $4 750 (Zimbabwe dollars) for the least paid civil servant."
The increase offered by government will see the lowest paid worker take home $1 023 local dollars, up from $582.
"In response, the APEX Council requested for time to consult with their members. On Tuesday 28 August 2019, the two parties will meet again for further deliberations on the issue."
