World No. 3 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia announced Wednesday that she has elected to undergo "minor surgery" and has pulled out of upcoming tournaments in both Doha and Dubai.
Jabeur, 28, did not divulge any specific details about the upcoming procedure, however.
"In order to take care of my health situation. My medical team have decided that I need to get a minor surgery in order to be able to be back on the courts and perform well," Jabeur wrote on Instagram.
"I will have to retire from Doha and Dubai and this is breaking my heart. I would like to say sorry to all the fans out there in the Middle East that waited for this reunion. I promise I will come back to you stronger and healthy."
The Qatar Open will held from Feb. 13-18, while the Dubai Duty Free Championships will take place the following week.
Jabeur spoke of the need to manage an ongoing knee injury during the Australian Open. She dropped a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 decision to Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic in the second round of the tournament.
Jabeur was coming off the best season of her career, which saw her reach the finals of both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
