Dodoma [Tanzania], February 1 (ANI): The Indian Army announced on Sunday that the Indian Army Training Team at Tanzania's School of Infantry is marking a 'significant' milestone in India-Tanzania Defence Cooperation.
According to the Indian Army, the engagement between the two countries on the defence front will underscore India's commitment to strengthening bilateral strategic ties through professional military education, capacity building, and a shared vision for regional stability and security.
Through the official X handle of 'The Additional Directorate General of Public Information, Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army)', it was posted, ' The Indian Army Training Team at Tanzania's School of Infantry is marking a significant milestone in India-Tanzania Defence Cooperation. The engagement underscores India's commitment to strengthening bilateral strategic ties through professional military education, capacity building and a shared vision for regional stability and security.'

In November last year, the maiden edition of Indian Navy - Tanzania People's Defence Force Navy Staff Talks was successfully concluded at Dar es Salaam, in Tanzania, an official said.
A navy spokesperson said in a post on X, 'Talks were dedicated to mapping the future course of bilateral maritime engagements, advancing ongoing cooperation and promoting a coordinated approach to #MaritimeSecurity'

According to the MEA brief, under 'Defence & Security Cooperation', India and Tanzania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Co-operation in October 2003.
The MoU provides an overarching framework for advancing various defence cooperation initiatives between the two countries. In recent years, India and Tanzania have been cooperating on defence training at Indian institutions. An Indian Military Training Team (IMTT) has been deployed at the Command and Staff College in Arusha since December 2017.
The first India-Tanzania Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting was held in New Delhi on 15 January 2021, and the second on June 28-29, 2023, in Arusha, Tanzania.
According to the MEA brief, Hydrography is another advancing area of cooperation between the two countries. Indian naval survey ships have conducted hydrographic surveys of Tanzanian ports and prepared navigational charts. 100 copies of 6 navigational charts and 7 ENCs prepared by India were handed over to Tanzanian officials during PM Modi's July 2016 state visit.
The High Commission of India organised a DefExpo on May 30, 2022, in Dar es Salaam, in association with the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence & Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM). 16 companies (7 Defence Public Sector Undertakings and 9 private companies) participated.
The 2nd Defence Expo, with 19 Indian companies participating, was held on October 2, 2023, in Dar es Salaam.
IN Ship Tarkash visited Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from October 26-29, 2022. During the visit, it participated in a bilateral Maritime Partnership Exercise with Tanzania and in the 1st trilateral exercise involving India, Tanzania, and Mozambique. INS Trishul visited Tanzania from July 5-9, 2023, during which surveillance of the Tanzanian EEZ and Maritime Partnership Exercises were conducted. (ANI)
